Thirteen Fort Worth Public Library locations will offer hands-only CPR and AED training sessions in February, coinciding with American Heart Month. These sessions will be conducted by the Fort Worth Fire Department staff.
The classes are free and open to teens and adults on a first-come, first-served basis, with no registration required. The training focuses on hands-only CPR and AED use but does not provide certification.
Fire Chief Jim Davis emphasized the importance of this initiative: “Knowing how to perform hands-only CPR and use life-saving tools like AEDs can make a difference in the critical minutes before first responders arrive.” He expressed pride in offering such training at no cost to the public.
The significance of these skills is underscored by data from the American Heart Association, which states that immediate CPR can double or triple survival chances after cardiac arrest. Proper use of an AED also enhances survival rates.
Library Director Midori Clark commented on the success of previous classes: “The response to our free, fall CPR classes was incredible, and we wanted more people to have the chance to learn these life-saving skills. So, what better time than Heart Month?”
Spanish interpreters will be available at six sessions for those who need assistance.
